If you have read my last post about Chaos in Egypt you will see that I believe in protests and revoloutions; in my current state of Wisconsin public workers are protesting the current Govenor Scott Walker because he is trying to take away bargainning rights for unions and increase the amount public workers have to pay into insurance and pensions even if they don't take insurance out through their employers. I myself am independent so I see both sides of the arguments in this case I think the Govoner is wrong.
"Why would he do such a thing?" Many have asked. Public workers include but don't exclude: teachers, college professors, EMTs, fire fighters, police, and sanitary workers. A lot of these workers have protested Walker, many have spent time in Madison and spending the night in the Captital building. Walker is still not going to budge Wisconsin is a Republican controled state and he has the votes needed to pass the bill, but in retalation Democrats have fled the state so the vote can not be heald.
If the vote is heald I assess that many state workers will quit their jobs to find a better job in the private sector or move out of the state to find better jobs, this bill will destroy the economey of Wisconsin. I know many think that the workers should continue to work because they picked the job and should love what they what they do, but in a Captalist society many workers are inspired to work for the money and the benifits. (I could go on to my beliefes of economic systems but that is for another post). It is not right for the government to decide if they can abolish unions and take away bargainning rights, workers need these so they can have better working environments and limits can be set for the employers.
I am proud of the citizens of Wisconsin that they have not gotten violent for a state that is known for drinking the situation in Madison has been sober and calm. Peaseful protests are some of the most effective because it shows the people in power that they want change (different than what Mr. President wants) and they will do it peacefuly no matter how long it takes.
So once again I say workers of the world unite!! Limits need to be set on what our leaders can do
